Staying fit over the holidays can be tough; most people are off work or working reduced hours, and there aren’t enough hours in the day for places you need to go and people you need to see and the festive tasty treats are everywhere. 1. Get a Workout Buddy for Accountability

This is probably the most effective way to stay active during the festive season. Find a workout buddy that is near the same fitness level as you and hold each other accountable. Having a workout buddy pushes you to stay committed to your workout schedule as much as possible.

2. Workout in the Morning

If you are a person who procrastinates working out, then it is best to squeeze in your workout in the morning, whenever possible. Getting your workout done early will leave you feeling motivated and accomplished for the rest of the day. Getting it done early also makes it less likely that you will get tied down with other things and not do it at all. It doesn’t have to be a long workout, thirty minutes every day consistently is better than an hour workout occasionally.

3. Set A Realistic Goal to Stay Fit Over the Holidays

Working out during the holidays is tough, which is why you need to set a realistic goal for yourself. It can be easy, in the weeks leading up to the holidays, to anticipate you will have the time (and motivation) to workout every single day for an hour. Rather set a realistic goal that you can achieve- you can always do more than you planned. For example, aim for four days of your regular workout and one active off day a week. Anything more that you do will be a bonus. Setting a realistic goal will prevent you from feeling unmotivated when you don’t achieve what you planned.

4. Keep Things Fresh and Fun

Use the holidays as a time to do something different that you would enjoy. Join and running club, take up yoga or kickboxing or start swimming. Starting something new during the holidays will keep you enthusiastic and excited instead of maintaining your usual routine which makes you lazy and lethargic.

5. Be Kind to Yourself

The holidays don’t last forever. Stay active as much as you can, however, it is important to remember that it is not the end of the world if you over-indulge or have a few lazy days. Use this time to recharge for the new year, a fresh start to get back on track and smash your goals.
