1. First Gym Mistake is Skipping Your Warmup

You have probably been told by your PE teachers, since you started your schooling career, that warming up before exercise if extremely important. However, people still ignore this information and dive straight in. Whilst skipping the warm-up saves you time, failing to warm-up can be a major set-back in the future due to injury. Warm-ups don’t have to be long, a few sets of lunges, squats, jumping jacks and skipping is more than enough to loosen your muscles and get your heart rate up.

2. Waiting for Equipment

This is such a time waster and not only frustrates you, but also the person using the equipment whilst you hover nearby. Should someone be using the equipment you need, simply switch up your routine to avoid having to stand and wait. If you find that you spend a lot of time waiting to use equipment, try switching your gym time from peak hours to earlier or later.

3. Not Planning Your Routine in Advance

Studies have proved that gym-goers experienced better results when they planned their routine in advance. Planning a routine is much more beneficial than simply winging it, as you are more likely to focus on and train the right muscle groups, instead of a variety. You will also feel more confident in the gym, will spend less time walking around aimlessly, and you will finish much faster.

4. Another Gym Mistake is Sticking to The Same Routine

You can prevent progress by sticking to the same routine for a significant amount of time. It is important to challenge your muscles by adding more reps as you get stronger or engaging different muscle groups in a new routine. If you don’t change it up, you will eventually hit a wall and see now new results.

5. Cardio Before Weight Training

So many people make the gym mistake of partaking in a heavy cardio session as their ‘warm-up’ before a session with weights. This slows progress, as you are not able to give weight training everything you’ve got, as you are tired from the cardio session. If you would like to incorporate some cardio, leave it until last so that you aren’t fatigued before you even begin lifting weights- that is how injuries happen.
